Portable 25 Watt radio station capable of transmitting on 88-108 MHz. The exciter is a Broadcast Warehouse 1 Watt PLL Exciter. Frequency is changed via two push buttons and the operating frequency and PLL lock condition are shown on the LCD display. The RF power amplifier is a Veronica 25 Watt Power Amplifier and does an easy 20+ watts across the band. The microphone is a M-80/U military style waterproof and noise cancelling type. For a cheap and quick antenna, use a set of old TV rabbit ear antennas fed with coax through a coaxial-loop balun.
The entire package is housed in an old ammo box to make it rugged, portable and waterproof. DC power is supplied from either a large 12 volt, 20 amp-hour rechargable battery or a vehicle's cigarette lighter plug.
Uses
- Go into a Best Buy store. Tune the display radios all to the same radio station and turn the volume up. Go back into the parking lot with your transmitter setup to broadcast over that radio station's signal. Make rude comments into the microphone. Get away really fast.
- Some backwoods states don't allow the use of police scanners in vehicles. A way around this law is to broadcast the audio from your scanner to your vehicle's FM radio via a small broadcast station. A 20 Watt FM broadcast station, with a good antenna system, should cover a 5 mile radius.
